— Data Link Solutions (DLS), a joint venture between Collins Aerospace and BAE Systems, has entered into a second full production and fielding contract for Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio System (MIDS JTRS) terminals for the Growler aircraft of this ally in the Pacific Rim. DLSexpanding-digital-networking-capabilities-for-Growler-fleet.php terminals enable the Growler to communicate during critical phases of its airborne electronic attack mission and provide information to other assets in the battle space.

"This follow-on order, valued at $29.4 million, will see the MIDS JTRS terminals become the first U.S. technology of its type to achieve initial operating capability with this country's Growler," said Heather Neff, director at DLS. "The contract will help extend networked communications capabilities in current and future coalition efforts."

The MIDS JTRS four-channel radio is a secure, scalable, modular, wireless, and jam-resistant digital information system currently providing tactical air navigation and Link 16 communications capabilities to joint and coalition airborne, ground, and maritime platforms. Secure Voice is another security technology embedded in the MIDS JTRS system, providing enhanced communications capabilities.

The MIDS JTRS Lot 2 delivery orders resulted from a competitive procurement through the U.S. Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command and were awarded to DLS under the MIDS Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity contract. Work will be performed at DLS facilities in Wayne, New Jersey, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. MIDS JTRS is a cooperative, competitive development effort between DLS and ViaSat.
